And we have yogurt! We love yogurt! We cook with it, eat it, freeze it! You name it...we use a lot of yogurt in this house! And now we can make it? And it was easy? YES!!!! Here it is...enjoy!
Homemade Yogurt
Whole milk of your choice (NOT ULTRA- Pasteurized)
1/2 pint of plain yogurt with live cultures
Pour milk into your crock pot about half way. However much you put is how much yogurt you are making. Cover and cook on low for 2 1/2 hours. Unplug the crock pot and leave it for another 3 hours. Try not to take the cover off....avoid this temptation! After the 3 hours, scoop out enough of the warm milk into a bowl. Mix in your starter yogurt and pour back into the crock pot. Cover the crock pot with lots of towel to maintain the warmish state. Let it sit UNPLUGGED for 8 hours. If you want to achieve the Greek Style yogurt, line a strainer with paper towels or better a coffee filter. Let the water drain off and you get the thickness you want. Also remember the yogurt will thicken when refrigerated.
